That religious faith cannot form the basis of reservation is not a subject of debate.
What then is the debate on giving reservation to certain Muslim occupational groups (castes)? The SC order allowing reservation for backward Muslims in AP and speculations that the Congress may push ahead with Rangnath Mishra Commission recommendations have ignited the controversy again. Read more

The previous week has thrown up – yet again – a lingering problem of governance in India, namely the inability of governments in the states and at the Centre to work in tandem.
States and the Centre locked horns over two extremely crucial issues – security and education.
Education is in the concurrent list of Indian constitution, meaning states and the Centre have simultaneous powers over the subject. Law and order is a state subject, but matters relating to internal security are covered in Union lists of powers too. Read more
