Politicians have been the permanent subject of lampoon by mass media, particularly popular films and advertisement. That seems to be suddenly changing.
Just before the recent general elections, a Tata tea advertisement that caricatured the arrogance of a politician became a huge hit. That has been general perception about politicians – corrupt, arrogant, insensitive to people’s problems etc etc. We associated the most evil things with politicians and seeing a good politician in any contemporary setting in a film has been out of question.
