Lakme Fashion Week this time has Naeem Khan showing his collection on its runway. It had Bibhu Mohapatra doing the same last season. I must say these kinds of shows on Indian fashion week runways add on to the overall charm of fashion weeks and then give them a whole new perspective.
I say this as most of the fashion week shows these days have become somewhat monotonous. I don’t see the kind of drive that I had seen when fashion week started in India. I see empty seats on the buyers side as well as on the media side. I don’t even see packed halls any more. All these point towards one thing… that more interesting collection ought to be brought on fashion week runways.
When the situation is like this, such shows as Bibhu’s or Naeem’s bring in the fresh perspective on the runway. Last season I saw a packed hall filled with celebrities for Bibhu’s show and I am sure the same will happen for Naeem’s this season.
Season after season it is important for designers to reinvent themselves while following forecasts to be successful at fashion weeks. Else, half-packed halls and empty seats are bound to be the result. Then why showcase their collections in the first place? Well, that’s a question that need to be answered!
I have seen many using fashion as a means to support a cause. But what Elle magazine does for breast cancer awareness and support has by far been the best example for doing something with plenty of feeling from inside and with best results. Read more
