What’s the point if you are a fashion designer and don’t have global recognition? There really is no point if aspirations are not there to grow beyond party pages. When it comes to our fashion industry and most of its designers, more often than not, it’s always portrayal of their personal profiles more important to them than their work. As fashion weeks are approaching once again, I also look forward to seeing more brandishing of brands on both sides of the fashion runway, besides our desi (local) brands being flashed officially on it!
It’s always fascinating to see some of the well-heeled coming to attend shows donning the foreign labels that they just acquired (probably) for the show, and of course for showing off purpose. Read more

I have seen and heard so many scams in my 18 years in fashion. But the biggest one came in my 18th year, the alleged formation of the Fashion Design Promotion Council (FDPC). The announcement of the same was followed by much fanfare first and a lot of fireworks later, but no one is talking about it now! Read more

I don’t watch the music channels on TV. If the way the presenters yap is not enough, their ways of dressing is something that makes me switch channels (or pop in a piece of cinnamon in my mouth to control nausea!).
No matter what channel I watch, when it comes to music I found that DJs have peculiar ways dressing. To show how ‘kewl’ they are they go for the funkiest (read funniest) clothing that makes all of them look as if they belong to one dwelling cluster. Read more

A couple of days back I was at The Emporio mall in Delhi. Now, this mall is a place where along with the richie-rich, wannabes and their cousins also hang around. While the well heeled loosen their purse strings inside the stores, wannabes hang around clutching their bags tight. Richies can easily be identified as the alight from their swanky cars right at the entrance, while the wannabe slides into the basement parking with her only branded bag and takes the lift to the ground floor.
