The Kumbh administration in Haridwar has put up notices all over barring people from washing in the Ganga. But the devotees, some of them already in the city for the mela that starts January 14, are oblivious to it all. Mela DIG Alok Sharma says, “We stop them whenever we see them doing so… But even the dhobis wash up in the river.” The administration expects the crowd to peak at about 80 lakh on Baisakhi, April 14.
