I met the newly-minted Padmashri, Carnatic singer Aruna Sairam, on Wednesday for the sole purpose of deconstructing the abhang, which she is noted for. It’s ‘a-bhang’, literally ‘the unbreakable’ in Sanskrit, Marathi and Hindi, meaning the Word of God.
