DABRA, India — One after the other, the men raped her. They had dragged the girl into a darkened stone shelter at the edge of the fields, eight men, maybe more, reeking of pesticide and cheap whiskey. They assaulted her for nearly three hours. She was 16 years old.

When it was over, the men threatened to kill her if she told anyone, and for days the girl said nothing. Speaking out would have been difficult, anyway, given the hierarchy of caste. She was poor and a Dalit, the low-caste group once known as untouchables, while most of the attackers were from a higher caste that dominated land and power in the village.

It might have ended there, if not for the videos: her assailants had taken

cellphone videos as trophies, and the images began circulating among village

men until one was shown to the victim’s father, his family said. Distraught,

the father committed suicide on Sept. 18 by drinking pesticide. Infuriated,

Dalits demanded justice in the rape case.

“We thought, We lost my husband, we lost our honour,” the mother of the rape

victim said. “What is the point of remaining silent now?”…..

I believe Tharoor’s rehabiliation process is quite apt. I am glad he wasn’t given MEA charges on his reappointment. This would have created another unnecessary controversy as Krishna resigned just before the resuffle. Then Tharoor would have been seen as an agent of that change. I am sure he definitely would be back in MEA in future if UPA forms the next Govt.

I was a little disappointed with Jairam Ramesh not not being given prominence. He has the talent and he is developing right political attitude. He has ability to take issues head on and talent to support those endeavours.

I am glad Scindhia and Pilot are getting attention. The voters would soon identify with these young leaders.

Saudia. Iran, iraq and all OPEC countries buy back the oil and gas from the producer for domestic consumption at a fixed -price which has no link to international prices.

Does the price of gas procution double every six months and then reduce just because of the opec cartel? laughable!!

Hindus believe Modi should apologise

The most interesting bit in the survey is, as many 44 percent Hindus feel Modi
should apologise for the riots and 45 per cent believe Modi could have stopped the riots had he been serious about it. The numbers are expectedly higher in the Muslim community with 55 per cent saying he should apologise and 50 percent maintaining he could have stopped the riots. Both the communities feel the Gujarat chief minister’s recently-concluded sadbhavana yatra is a political gimmick – the numbers stand 51 per cent and 42 per cent respectively for both the communities.

The responses somehow puts Modi in an awkward position. While some feel 2002 riots should be treated as a thing of the past, not many absolve him of guilt – of omission and commission – for the communal killings in that period. His emphasis on development has not quite managed to erase the negative perception about him.

As the survey reveals, the fear of another 2002-type communal violence still looms large in the public sentiment though it’s much less intense in 2012 compared to 2007. Responding to the question in 2007 whether a repeat of the riots was possible again, 69 percent Hindu and 80 per cent Muslim respondents had said that it was indeed possible. The number has come down to 55 per cent in each community in 2012. It reveals that Muslims are much less apprehensive now. It should be construed as the vote of confidence for Modi.

Gadkari. If Sangh insists upon continuing with Gadkari despite all the
allegations of financial irregularities against him, the party does not have a
choice.

The freedom of party leaders to express free opinions is limited. They have to
operate within the ideological framework of the mother organisation. The
party’s most successful leader, Atal Behari Vajpayee, dared to be different and
he was hated across the Sangh fraternity. LK Advani, the party’s tallest
leader even now, was cut down to size promptly after he praised Jinnah during
his Karachi trip. Narendra Modi is in a continuing battle with the RSS in Gujarat despite being the party’s showpiece leader. The tussle began
after he sought to restrain the interference of the powerful members of the Sangh in governance matters.

About two months back Supreme court had ordered Sahara group to refund
24000 crores back to its investors which they had raised by breaching some rules. The excuse which Sahara gave for not refunding this amount by the dead line set by supreme court – 30 Sep. 2012 – was that 90% of the investors did not have bank accounts. That means about 21600 crores were paid to Sahara in cash by their investors. It is anybody’s guess that how much of that was Sahara’s own black money invested in his own company through fictitious names. Gadkari’s case is not any different from this case.

I had tried to explain that the government has to be of Indians, for Indians by Indians. But his government is by reliance and his papa.

In fact Pathak G gave all the reasons why India should by expensive gas.

Well what kejriwal said today roughly corresponds to what I have been saying. Variation in gas prices can only be linked to inflation and not to the international gas prices which OPEC will demand. The production cost does not double. Infact it reduces over a period of time.

But this government is of Vadras and their Malkins…

Anyway here is some more irrefutable good news about Khurshid. he happens to be the chairman of DPS society. It is commone knowledge that admission to DPS schools is fixed at the highest level. 30% percent of admissions are done on cash– Black money basis.

The chairman appoints the people who collect the money.

For example admission to DPS central Delhi is about 15 lakhs per student now.

So 100 students paying 15 lakhs is … 15 crores per year !!!!!!!!!!

And this rate lowers or gets higher for other DPS schools. And there are at least 30 of them !

Now is Khurshid so innocent that it all happens under his gaze? That the collection agent in the school hapens to be his man?

Congress drops Louise CD bomb on IAC

KANPUR: In an attempt to play the spoilsport for Arvind Kejriwal’s November 1 rally in Farrukhabad, the Congress has released CDs which allegedly carry an audio-conversation between Salman Khurshid’s wife Louise Khurshid and India Against Corruption convener Lakshman Singh, wherein the latter offers Louis cancellation of the rally if the party removes Punni Shukla from the post of City Congress chief. The IAC claimed that the CD was forged and fabricated by corrupt elements.

At a press conference on Wednesday, district Congress president Aftab Hussain distributed the CDs among reporters. He said the Congress decided to make the recently recorded audio conversation public to make people aware of Ithe AC’s wrongdoings.

Later, in a hurriedly called press conference, IAC activists said they would file a defamation suit against the Congressmen in the next few days. Omendra Bharat, member of the state working committee of IAC, said, “The CD, which is fake, has been made in a pre-planned manner and purposely used by Congressmen on the eve of Arvind Kejriwal’s rally to damage IAC’s reputation.”

IAC activists made elaborate arrangements for the rally in Farrukhabad, considered a Congress bastion. All roads leading to Lohia park ground in Awas Vikas area of the district were decked up with IAC posters and banners.

The Farukhabad district administration has banned canes which Bharatiya Kisan Union volunteers planned to use “to protect” Arvind Kejriwal during the rally. BKU offered armed support to IAC following an alleged “threat” by Salman Khurshid.

“The troubles of Dubai-based Sunanda Pushkar may be far from over. The IPL Kochi franchise controversy has already had its first casualty with her friend Shashi Tharoor, being forced to resign from the Union Cabinet.

Though Ms. Pushkar has given up her “sweat equity” in the Kochi franchise voluntarily, the Income Tax Department is not impressed and could come knocking on her door.

Officials associated with the investigations into the Indian Premier League’s murky deals were of the view that Ms. Pushkar could be asked to cough up tax on the “sweat equity.”

“There is no provision, as such, of voluntary return of equity. She was allotted sweat equity as a member of the Rendezvous Sports World consortium and as her share came to around 19 per cent, she could have a tax liability of nearly Rs. 20 crore on the Rs. 74 crore amount,” a senior official said.”

Since Rendezvous owns 25 per cent of the franchise, Ms. Sunanda’s stake is valued at roughly Rs. 74 crore, based on the consortium’s bid of over Rs. 1,500 crore.

She is understood to have got the sweat equity in Rendezvous Sports World as a gift in return for professional services to be provided in the future for the company. Her lawyer’s statement had clearly established that she earned this stake as part of her business venture.

Just when Tamil Nadu based trader, Ravi Sreenivasan thought the worst was behind him – he had recently been arrested by the Puducherry police before being granted bail for tweeting that Home Minister Chidambaram’s son, Karti Chidambaram, was wealthier than Robert Vadra – he found himself on the wrong side of the law yet again.

Ravi was picked up this time around for tweeting: “Karti is a sweet guy. I wish him all the best.”

Although the tweet, at first glance, seems to be in praise of Karti, the Home Minister’s son found it to be sarcastic, and hence, acutely annoying. This implied that Ravi was yet again in violation of the provisions of Section 66(1) of the Information Technology Act, under which a non bailable arrest warrant can be issued for posting content that , inter alia, causes ‘annoyance’ or ‘inconvenience’.

A highly aggrieved Karti later told The Unreal Times, “I was just recovering from the trauma of the first tweet when I noticed Ravi’s latest tweet. At first, I thought he was being friendly but it slowly dawned on me that it was extremely sarcastic and downright humiliating. I then decided to seek constitutional and legal remedy for being inconvenienced, which fortunately the IT Act offers. I must say, I was definitely inconvenienced by the tweet.”

Nineteen-year-old Anusha Roy, student at a vocational institute, would have probably never come to know about the carnage of 1984 if it were not for the scores of photographs put up at Gurudwara Bangla Sahib as part of “Forgotten Citizens 1984: Justice Campaign for 1984”. “I know about the Hindu-Muslim riots but not about these Sikh killings,” said Anusha moving around wearing a bewildered expression.

On the other hand, Bhupinder Singh is trying to identify his relatives amongst a group of 20 widows. “We had six houses in one row in Sagarpur and all male members were finished off. I can identify not all but some of my relatives in this picture. I feel pained and hurt and that’s why I am here.”

Political parties, across the board, are stonewalling efforts to clean up the electoral system

The move to place political parties under the Right To Information (RTI) Act has drawn sharp protests from every major political party. The principal argument: political parties are not public authorities. At the final Central Information Commission (CIC) hearing held before a full bench on November 1, political parties claimed exemption from the RTI Act on the bizarre grounds that “revealing names of their donors might endanger the donors` lives” and that “it would impact the parties’ decision-making process”. The CIC verdict has been reserved and will be announced shortly. Interestingly, the Congress was the only major party absent at this final CIC hearing. The BJP, BSP, CPM and NCP among others were present.

Rahul Gandhi paradox: He is the ‘system’ he says is flawed.

Rahul Gandhi’s speech was a riddle wrapped in an enigma. Evidently looking to feed off the widespread popular anger directed at the corrupt ‘system’ (which anti-corruption activists like Arvind Kejriwal and others have channelled effectively), Rahul Gandhi took off on a tear projecting himself and the Congress as the champion of the aam aadmi in taking on this ‘system’.

That is, of course, an admirable objective – except that Rahul Gandhi appeared to have overlooked the 800-pound gorilla on the stage: that he, and the Congress party, were both consummate ‘insiders’ in the system that he was railing against.

Perhaps it hasn’t been brought to Rahul Gandhi’s notice, but the Congress has been pretty much ruling India for all but a handful of the 65 years since independence. And he, as the latest in a long line of dynasts who have presided over the destiny of the Congress and the country (considerably for the worse, it needs to be said), is the standard bearer of that legacy. Which makes him a significant cog in the venal ‘system’ that he today rants about.
