Actually no party wanted the women’s bill securing 33 percent seats in the lower House of Parliament and the state legislatures. There was resentment even within the Congress but none dared to speak.
The Opposition parties including the BJP and CPM while backing the government and promising it support secretly wanted to see a red faced Congress rather than triumphant women. Read more
