Heard of Susan Boyle? No? Well, she’s the talk of the town in Britain since April 11 when she first appeared on Britain’s Got Talent, the UK version of American Idol. She wowed both the audience and the judges by her rendition of I dreamed a dream from the English version of the French musical Les Miserables. So what’s so incredibly special about that? Nothing really, except two things: one, that she sung incredibly well; and two, she is, well, ugly.
Ugliness and talent don’t sit together well in people’s minds, especially when displayed through the eye candy-friendly medium of television. Read more
