I’m just back from the Jaipur Literary Festival and let’s just say that I’m a bit tetchy after four days of literary schmoozing and ogling. Surely, you ask, hanging out with a galaxy of writers and writer-types (not the same thing) should be fun? After all, how often do you catch Vikram Seth in the same buffet line as you, and how many occasions do you get to see Sunil Gangopadhyay smoking in the corner in accordance to a no-smoking rule under the roof of a shamiana? Exciting new writers like Mohammad Hanif and Tahmima Anam mingle with their antipodes like Shashi Tharoor and Simon Schama to bring forth a circus of wordsmiths.  Read more
