Why Rahul is failing?

Because he has yet to show his administrative mettle.

Bihar results should come as an eye opener for the Congress in the Hindi heartland as their public mascots are failing to attract votes. Perhaps they need to re-strategise their winning formulas if they wish to break the two-decade old jinx and win the largest, but the most backward state, Uttar Pradesh from where their revival in the Northern belt could start.

The alibi that the Congress is trying to extricate itself from the cesspool of coalition politics is not credible as people suspect them of exploiting the CBI probe tool to keep the troublesome allies like Mayawati, Lalu Prasad Yadav — even Mulayam Singh Yadav in check. Yes the party has to start from scratch !

How? Perhaps by convincing the electorate that the Congress would return to the so call Indira’s slogan of ‘Roti, Kapda and Makan’ with no communal, political or caste considerations derailing it at any cost. This could mean taking tough stand against both Hindu and Muslim fundamentalists without fearing any political backlash from either of the two communities.

Is Congress ready for that?

The prospects don’t look very bright but for the very reason that finally the development plank is back in the poll arena. The electorates in recent assembly polls in Northern states have pushed caste and communal considerations aside to vote for development. Even Ayodhya verdict couldn’t help Lalu as predicted by many as the Muslims opted for Nitish’s development to Lalu’s communal card.

UP is crying for development. Successive governments led by almost every party from the BJP to the SP and the BSP in the last two decades have not delivered. Not that the Congress regimes pre 1990 were any better. But whatever development was made in the state was during that regime– people remember the days of Vir Bahadur Singh and Narain Dutt Tiwari.

Can Rahul be Bihar’s Nitish? Speculations are already there that UP will be the launch pad for Rahul’s beginning as an administrator.

It’s another matter that Congress has a major credibility issue, bogged down as it is with scams coupled with the charge of indecisions and inaction. The recent 2G scam has punctured the hype created by Obama’s visit.

The question that comes to mind is why is Rahul failing. People like him, but they don’t vote for him. His yatras get applause, not votes. They clap when he talks about cleansing the political system, they love it when he appeals the youth to join politics, they like to emulate him when he dumps security concerns and walks and talks like a commoner.

But when it comes to polls, they don’t vote for him. Bihar is an example.

So are the two November by-polls in UP – in Lakhimpur Khiri and Etah, where people preferred upcoming parties like the Peace Party floated by a medical professional to national parties like the Congress. Though Mulayam Singh Yadav won both the seats, the runner up were little known political groups.

To me it appears, the top-heavy Congress doesn’t have a machinery, the infrastructure to convert crowds into votes.

Secondly, its credibility in the northern belt is in question- people neither trust its intent nor its winnability.

Thirdly, which perhaps is the most important, they want Rahul to showcase his competence by translating his much-hyped vision into practice. Mere speeches or a commoner’s conduct would not work as a magic wand when people want action, that too swift ones.

In other words power comes with responsibility.

I think it’s littele too early to say that Rahul is failing to get votes for Congress. In my opinion, we can’t declare Rahul a failure on the gournds of Bihar Poll results because UP and Bihar are two different States, so as their politics.

    Why Rahul has failed-
    1. His political style i.e. populist is out of date. He imitates his father in his speeches. No one is buying BS anymore.
    2. He plays Communal politics as we have seen in Bihar.
    3. He plays casteist polictics (Dalit drama)
    4. His statements are full of hot air that make him look like clown.
    5. His shallow understanding of issues. He keeps mum on issue of national importance.

He is unfit to be a MP on his own but GANDHI surname can even make a dog win elections. I’d appreciate if HT journalists shed their bias (after Sanghvi episode) and call spade a spade.

    RAHUL is a failure..nothing else.

very well said … I do not understand why we give him so much importance afterall. He is a foolish kid who does not know what his agendas are ! He needs to know the length & breadth of the country first & then talk about polity.

    Good one, Sunita.

Beyond a point, the public want their leaders to deliver on promises……

Individuals cant move organsations like the congress, especially when they have a synchophantic DNA. Managerial potential is being stifled. (Remember the young MPs; going to the PM to say they wanted more responsibility?

As long as he continues to be percieved as “Rahul Baba”, he will continue to provide only entertainment wherever he goes.

He needs to deliver in tangible terms, and some of the old guard in congress now needs to retire

The diagnosis of the author is spot on. But the congress will not pay any attention to the people like the author.

The congress culture is that the Gandhi is above fail. That is exactly what is taking place. He will not be allowed to take over the CM ship of any state regardelss of what the stakes are.

Upon which state do you wish the misfortune of Rahul Gandhi as CM?
His personal/ political development is not what any state’s denizen’s should pay for. And, realistically- which state is there to be ruled by the Congress?
    Delhi? Will Shielaji vacate?
UP? Will Congress ever form a government there?
Andhra is ruled out for many obvious reasons.
    Maharashtra? Rajasthan?
I guess he can join the union cabinet- but, do what?

I do not think that Rahul is failing. He attracts crowds. However, the voters know that Rahul will not handle their daily local requirements. They will have to depend on the local leaders for that. If the local leaders fail to generate the confidence that they will do a good job, and the polls are free and fair, the local candidate generating greater confidence wins.

In Bihar the efforts of Nitish Kumar have been rewarded by the people. What the Congress Party or Rahul Gandhi has done for Bihar? Bihar’s progress during Nitish’s regime is undoubtedly not less than a miracle and the people of Bihar have realized it. During election campaign almost all the Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi tried to misguide the people of Bihar by their speeches. They tried to project a wrong picture of Nitish’s regime but the people knew the reality. In Bihar it’s a success of Nitish Kumar that matters not the failure of Rahul Gandhi. One who has done something significant will be rewarded now & one who only makes promises & not ready to accept the ground realities will be taught a lesson by the people.

This article looked like a piece from congress spokesperson. The backwardness of UP is because of congress and I pray they never comeback to power in UP. The progress of UP is in the hand of UP politicians. Rahul’s aim is PM he will never do any good for UP. we still remember the days when UP CM was changed like cloths by congress high command. BTW it is still happening in Maharashtra. Lets hope congress doesn’t win UP.

The only thing Rahul can showcase is his stupidity, his ignorance of India, his greed for looting India. He or his mother have not said a word about the 2G scam, CWG scam, Adarsh housing scam, the terrorism etc. This shows their involvement in the corruption and the involvement of Congress party in terrorism. One of the party’s so called leaders is making stupid statements, has been hobnobing with terrorists and the party has been sheilding Kesab and Afjul.

Rahul is the immatured son of an immatured father. His father first win was on the dead body of her mother. Despite the landslide win , he could not deliver. The blunders Rajiv Did:
    1) Sikhs Massacare
    2) Sending of IPKF to Sri Lanka , and susequent defeat of IPKF.
    3) Changing the constitution in Shah Bano Case. annoying Hindus.
    4) Ram Janm Bhumi shilanyas leading to the demolition of Babri Structure.
    5) ‘Bofors’ which led to his losing the next elctions and chair.

People are no longer fools. They observe everything now, and want results

    Coming back to Rahul:
    1) Except that he is from the Gandhi family, he has not shown any merits.

    2) People who come to attend his meetings are being paid by the party.

    3) He has charm but no appeal.

    4) He hardly addresses the current problems the country is facing like Corruption/ Scams/ Loot of the Country’s Money/ Price Rise/ Inflation/ Naxalites/ China/ Pakistan/ Islamic Jihad from the Neibouring country.

    5) In Bihar elections , he only criticized Nitish Kumar vis-a vis to Lallu, forgetting the good job Nitish had done. People did not accept his words , because they have seen the change in the last five years.

    6) He and his mother continue to highlight that we are sending the money to the states which is either not utilized or misutilized, as if this money they have brought from Italy.

    7) People of india now want Results/ Developments, and accountability of their leaders, not just talks and dreams. In this scenario , the whole Congress including Rahul is failing miserably.
