Being nice thru rice

Recently in conversation with the chief executive of Pakistan’s Trade Development Authority and discussing what India and Pakistan could together on the economic front, he proposed the two countries once again seek a common geographical indication of basmati rice.

Recap: the World Trade Organization provides geographical intellectual property right protection for certain products. Thus it ensures no one can call their sparkling wine “champagne” except those who make stuff in the Champagne region of France.

The Indian and Pakistani Punjab was originally seen as the home of this long-grain aromatic rice. The two countries had once sought to jointly get basmati registered with the WTO as geographically specific to certain parts of their respective countries. Both sides had been rattled by an attempt by a US firm to register a patent for its own hybrid basmati strand.

In the mid-1990s this joint effort fell apart. I vaguely remenber that the Indian side blamed the Pakistanis for trying to tie it to Kashmir or something on those lines. Whoever was to blame, the two went their separate ways when it came to basmati’s geographical protection.

This was unfortunate because it precluded defence through the WTO, easily the most sensible way to do so as it would be global and be defended by a tribunal system with punitive powers.

So basmati protection became and remains a patchwork of local and bilateral agreements, one set by Pakistan and the other by India. It has done well, but India’s Agricultural and Processed Food Export Development Agency spends Rs 40 to 50 million a year defending the sacred name of basmati — most recently against a cafe in Morocco. Presumably some Pakistani agency does the same.

Fortunately the biggest importers of basmati in the world, mainly Persian Gulf Arab states, have local definitions of the rice that all but guarantee most of the global market remains reserved for South Asia.

But this is a piecemeal solution. The WTO would be so much more final. and that would require a common India-Pakistan petition to have basmati listed with the WTO. Also the battle is endless, and you only have to lose once. Tilda, an Indian exporter, nearly lost a case against a Thai firm claiming to grow basmati. See below:

http://spicyipindia.blogspot.in/2012/03/when-tilda-had-to-rescue-basmati-from.html

I also think that having a joint definition would help freeze or at least make it more difficult to change the parameters of basmati. Today, at least in India, basmati is said to grow in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Last year Madhya Pradesh asked for its aromatic rice to be defined as basmati. Bangladesh also claims to grow the stuff.

Adulteration is rampant. A study in the UK in 2005 found half the basmati sampled was, well, not basmati. A new rules regime was put in place, but another survey showed adulteration had only been reduced.

Time for a joint Indo-Pakistani task force to save basmati from others and each other.

I only copy paste as I am not good in writing.

Innocent well-meaning people have fallen prey to the media’s evil designs. The Gujarat riots were plain riots- not pogrom’ or ‘massacre’. The state government- far from being involved in the riots- handled the riots effeciently and controlled them in 3 days- while riots continued in Gujarat for 6 months in 1969 and 1985 under Congress rule in which close to 10,000 people each were killed. At the time of the 2002 riots, this same English media did report the truth at times. The following facts will make it clear-
    1) On 28 February 2002 , The Hindustan Times reported that the entire police force of 70,000 had been deployed in Gujarat view of apprehensions that riots may break out.
    2) On Feb 28 The Indian Express reported that “(On Feb 27) the state government had deployed the Rapid Action Force in Ahmedabad and other sensitive areas and the Centre sent in CRPF personnel”.. Both these reports were published even before a single riot had taken place.
    3) Riots began in Ahmedabad on Feb 28 at 11 AM . India Today weekly ( 18 March 2002 ) reports that Modi informally requested the Centre for deployment of Army at 12-00 noon i.e. within 1 hour. The same weekly also reports one column of troops reached Ahmedabad at 2-30 AM on 1st March and staged a flag march the same morning at 9 AM.
    4) The same weekly in the issue also says that the then Defence Minister George Fernandes was in Ahmedabad at 2-00 Am on 1st March on Modi’s request and was bravely on Ahmedabad’s streets that morning (1st March) at a great personal risk.
    5) The Hindu reported on 1st March 2002 that, “The Army units, frantically called by the Chief Minister, Narendra Modi…started arriving in Ahmedabad…”.This shows that some Army units reached Ahmedabad so quickly on Feb 28 that The Hindu had time to report their arrival on Feb 28 itself and publish it on 1st March!
    6) Out of 18,600 villages, 240 towns and 25 district headquarters, hardly 60 places saw riots. One-third of Gujarat, i.e. Saurashtra and Kutch were completely unaffected by riots even in the first 3 days. After the first three days- riots were limited to Ahmedabad, Vadodara and some places near Godhra- and almost all were started by Muslims.
    7) In the first three days- Gujarat police shot dead 98 rioters- majority of whom were Hindus. On 1st March, The Hindu reported that- “At least 10 people have been killed in police firing in Ahmedabad alone by evening (of Feb 28)”. Then on 2nd March, The Indian Express reported that “Police shot dead 20 people in Gujarat, 12 in Ahmedabad, on 1st March”. Then on 3rd March, Indian Express reported-”77 more people have been killed in Police/ Army firing (on 2nd March)”. Then on 2nd March ‘The Hindu’ reported that-”Unlike Feb 28 when one community was entirely at the receiving end, the minority backlash on 1st March has further worsened the situation.”
The Times of India dated 18 March 2002 devoted a complete report titled, “Riots hit all classes, people of all faith” on Hindu victims of the riots and says, “Contrary to popular belief that only Muslims have been affected in the recent riots more than 10,000 persons belonging to the Hindu community have also become homeless”.
    9) The Indian Express devoted two full reports exclusively to Hindu victims in Ahmedabad in its issues dated 7 May 2002 and 10th May 2002. The victims were not only homeless; they did not even have relief camps to live in, and hence had to live in temples.
    10) India Today weekly reports in its issue dated 27 May 2002, “A series of attacks by Muslims on policemen has further added to mutual lack of faith. Now strapped with the anti-Muslim label, the police has been slow in acting against Muslim fanatics”.
    11) India Today (27 May 2002) also gives details of attacks on Hindus by Muslims. The same weekly reports in its issue dated 15 April 2002 that- “A young Hindu went to Himmatnagar (Muslim) area of Ahmedabad to do business and was found dead, with his eyes gouged out”. This issue also gives details of Muslim aggression.
    12) India Today weekly dated 22 April 2002 also reports that ‘Gujarat police saved 2,500 Muslims from certain death in Sanjeli, North Gujarat on 1st March 2002′. The weekly also says- ‘Like Sanjeli, 5,000 Muslims were also saved in Bodeli town in Vadodara district by the police’ and ‘Thousands of Muslims were also saved in Viramgam town from 15,000 armed Hindus’ by police and the Army. The UPA government- staunchly anti-BJP, has given figures of 790 Muslims and 254 Hindus killed in the Gujarat riots, and 223 missing, in Rajya Sabha on 11 May 2005. A total of 790 Muslims were killed in the riots- more than thrice that number were saved on one day at a single place.
    13) Throughout Gujarat riots- there are only two instances of real anti-Muslim riots-The Ehsan Jafri case and the Naroda Patiya case. In the Ehsan Jafri case, the police shot dead 5 Hindus outside his house and saved the lives of more than 200 Muslims. There were 250 people inside Jafri’s house and the mob killed 39- with police saving more than 200- despite being overwhelmingly numbered by the rioters who were more than 10,000..
    14) There have been 4 convictions of Muslims for rioting after Godhra and Muslims were given various sentences. 4 Muslims were convicted by a Vadodara fast track court on 16 October 2003 and given life imprisonment. Ex-Vadodara Deputy Mayor and Congress leader Nisar Bapu was acquitted, but his son and son-in-law were convicted. This was reported in at least three English dailies, including The Times of India dated 17 October 2003. 9 and 7 Muslims were convicted in two separate judgments on 18 and 28 March 2006 by fast track courts in Ahmedabad- reported by all major English dailies the next day. Muslims were hardly the cattle hiding from the slaughter house that the media makes them out to be. The conviction of Muslims proves that Muslims were equally on the offensive.
The newspaper editors and others who call the Gujarat riots as a ‘holocuast’, ‘pogrom’, ‘genocide’ or ‘massacre’ should look at their own newspapers’ reports on these very things. Will these facts awaken the conscience of the newspaper editors and journalists and ofcourse the electronic media and make them reveal the bitter truth of the Gujarat riots- that even after Godhra, the riots that followed were not one-sided?

Nice, you have been copy-pasting this exact content on any article on Modi on HT. Perhaps you are hoping that repeating half-truths zillions of time will convince the public of a different version of truth.

The thing is both these facts are true:
    1. Narendra Modi will get away with what he did – by systematically destroying all official documentation, and keeping enough “buffer” (seen Godfather?:) )
    2. Seeds of mistrust in Modi will never go from the minds of Indians. He will never get a national role in his lifetime, no matter how much he tries to steal the achievements of Gujratis as his own achievment.

He has no sense that many legal hurdles have been hurled by the Congress, the Muslims and the pseudo-secularists of India at Mr. Narendra Modi and to-date, they utterly failed at uncovering anything bad against him! This is so as there is nothing to frame him and like a great son of the soil, he has been doing great deeds for the Gujarat state and the good people of that state have been returning him to the seat of governance repeatedly. Mr. Huq like other nefarious detrators will be consigned to the history’s dustbin whereas Mr. Modi will soon move to the seat of the nation’s power to change the destiny of the country.

Ten years can be a lifetime in today’s here-and-now world. Ten years after the Gujarat violence, the state claims to have moved on. Relative peace and the engine of enterprise have taken the state into another orbit. Its Chief Minister Narendra Modi is being seen in some quarters as a potential Prime Minister, a role model of good governance. But what of those who were caught in the vortex of violence? Have they been able to move on? Have they achieved any sense of closure? Have the scars of a divided society healed?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzh4ozwotkE

Let’s begin our journey to find some answers in the town where it all began: Godhra. For the residents of Signal Falia, a Muslim ghetto near Godhra railway junction, February 27th 2002 is a morning they will never forget. A majority of the 94 accused of burning the S6 coach of the Sabarmati Express, leading to the death of 59 Kar Sevaks, were from the dusty by-lanes of Signal Falia. Inayat Jujhara was an elderly government clerk who spent nine years in jail under POTA till he was acquitted last year. The nine years were like an eternity for him and his family who now run a small provision store in the area.

Sixty three of the Godhra accused were acquitted last year. But for many it was a case of too little, too late. Siddiq Bakkar pushed a trolley on Godhra railway station when he was picked up and jailed. He was acquitted of all charges six years later, but by then, his life had changed. His 18-year-old son gave up his computer studies to do manual labour in the area.

Siddiq has got his freedom. 31 others, however, were convicted by the lower court, awaiting appeal in higher courts under stringent non-bailable anti-terror laws. Naseem Medha’s husband Siraj is facing the death sentence. Raising four children, she insists her husband is innocent, but doesn’t have the resources to fight a long, legal battle. Her ten-year-old son Amir was born in 2002, months after the train burning.

Most accounts of that day have maintained that the train burning was preceded by stone-pelting and scuffles between the Kar Sevaks and the local mobs from Signal Falia. Whether the fire was a pre-planned conspiracy or an accident has never been fully established and remains the subject of some dispute. Whatever caused the fire in the S6 coach, Signal Falia and its residents have been tarred with the brush of terror for life.

In the gritty by-lanes of Signal Falia, the signs of an uncared neighbourhood abound. Overflowing gutters and litters everywhere. A number of the young here are unemployed. No one, they say, will give you a job if Signal Falia is your address. The anger and discontent at being edged out of Gujarat’s growth story is palpable.

The only time the young of Signal Falia break out into a smile is when they talk cricket.

Signal Falia’s alienation can be contrasted with the hustle and bustle in the rest of Godhra. A communally sensitive town, Godhra has always had an unofficial border that separates Hindu areas from Muslim mohallas. But after a decade of peace, most traders we meet insist that business is breaking religious boundaries. Godhra too wants to be on the growth engine with a new Ram-Rahim model of business seen as the way forward.

But is it really possible for Godhra to bury its past when one part of the town still feels targeted and neglected after 2002? It’s a question I pose to the BJP’s Rajesh Chauhan, the president of the Godhra municipal council. “People want to forget,” he says, “including the Muslims.”

But forgetting February 27 is easier said than done for those who really suffered. I am now in Ahmedabad, the city of my birth, where I have many happy memories. My adult memories though were shaped by what I saw on Feb 28th and the days that followed. Ten years later, I am back to revisit the very places that were torn apart by communal violence.

In Ahmedabad, I meet up with the families of those who died in the train burning. In the Vastral suburb, we meet Prafulla Behn Soni who lost her husband Mansukh Bhai and son Jassal in the S6 fire. Aged and alone, the tears flow easily.

At Ahmedabad’s Rabari colony, we meet Janak Panchal, who lost his cousin Shailesh and Vilas Jadhav, who lost his father Sadashiv. They are more direct: they can neither forgive nor forget.

In the narrow streets of Shahpur’s Nagorichowk in the walled city of Ahmedabad, neighbours turned against neighbours. Small incidents of rioting were not unknown in this congested area where Hindus and Muslims live cheek by jowl. But Feb 28th was very different in its scale and intensity.

Ten years later, there is calm on the surface. But the urban buzz here can be deceptive. The police presence is a constant reminder of the area being a tinderbox. The home of Abdul Hamid, who has a small neon sign business, was destroyed by his neighbours. Today he’s rebuilt his home, but the fear factor hasn’t left him.

So why doesn’t he leave Nagorichowk? “Where else can we go? We don’t have money to go anywhere else,” he says.

On the other side of the road, where the Hindu wagri community lives, the response is equally sharp. Bharat Bhai Dantani still says it’s the others who start the violence.

A home rebuilt on one side of the road barely a few metres away from their Hindu neighbours. Divided by religion but still sharing the same physical space. The one thing that unites Hindu and Muslim in Shahpur is the desperate lack of basic facilities.

But even Shahpur’s overflowing toilets appear tolerable when compared with what we witness in the resettlement colonies on the outskirts of the city. These colonies came up to house the poorer Muslim families who had run away from the riot hit areas. One such colony, Citizen Nagar, has been created bang next to Ahmedabad’s largest garbage dump. Large families crowded into small tenements, the living conditions are sub-human.

Nadeem Saiyad, a carpenter, talks of the lack of facilities. “We survived being killed during the riots; now we are subject to the slow poison (of the garbage dump),” he says.

The womenfolk of Citizen Nagar are even more forthright in telling us how they feel like second class citizens, erased from the imagery of a Vibrant Gujarat.

Citizen Nagar has almost fallen off the map. Not so Naroda Patiya, an Ahmedabad suburb and scene of the worst massacre of 2002. 95 people lost their lives in the violence here, many of them killed by locals who they knew well. The killers still live in the immediate vicinity, but that has not stopped the likes of Shakila Bano from returning to their homes. Shakila, a seamstress, lost eight members of her family in the violence, including her mother and brother. Today, she is a key witness in the Naroda Patiya case, determined to bring the killers to justice.

The biggest impediment to getting justice for riot victims like Shakila, says Abdul Shamshad, a young activist lawyer, is the lack of faith in the police. Post-2002, Gujarat’s police force stands totally discredited in the eyes of the minorities. “All those arrested in POTA were Muslims, be it encounter killings or other cases. There is no faith in the police,” says Shamshad.

Many of the accused in cases like Naroda Patiya are Vishwa Hindu Parishad activists. Today, the VHP office in central Ahmedabad wears a deserted look, its leadership marginalized by its own BJP government. But the VHP’s office bearers still espouse the action-reaction theory to justify the 2002 violence.

Ashwin Patel, general secretary of the VHP in north Gujarat, says, “The violence (of 2002) was the reaction of the Hindus, not just the VHP.”

But beyond the trauma and antagonisms of riot-scarred areas like Naroda Patiya, there is another Gujarat – a new Ahmedabad, geographically divided with very few mixed neighbourhoods, but economically upwardly mobile. For the new generation of Amdavadis, the scent of economic opportunities has meant that they don’t want to look back at the past with anger but fast forward to the future with hope.

I meet up with the young professionals of a knowledge process outsourcing company. Their upbeat mood symbolizes the mindset of a state in economic overdrive. They don’t want to think of the past, they just want to move ahead. They see Modi as a role model. One of them says even Hitler was targeted. They also admit there are two Ahmedabads, but that they only want rapid growth.

In Vadodara too, one finds unmistakable signs of ambition, this time on the cricket field. The Baroda Sports Club has thrown up the Pathan brothers, Irfan and Yusuf, sons of the muezzin at the local mosque, who’ve become household names in the last decade. Their coach Mehendi Sheikh is still working overtime to create the next generation of the Pathans.

Chief Minister Narendra Modi, the man who has dominated Gujarat’s skyline over the last decade. The Modi government’s latest buzzword is sadbhavana or harmony. But is sadbhavana anything more than just a clever slogan or simply an attempt at an image makeover by a clever chief minister in an election year?

Meet Zakir Sacha, a former government employee, who shared a platform with the chief minister during Modi’s high profile sadbhavana yatra. He was one of the few Muslims to publicly endorse Modi. What made him do it?

To understand what Modi needs to really do to win Muslim hearts and minds I meet Dr J S Bandukwala, a retired professor from Vadodra’s MS University. Dr Bandukwala’s house was destroyed in the riots. Today, he has a message for the Chief Minister.

Conflicting views, contrasting emotions – how does one reconcile them? What would Gandhi have done is a question I have often asked in the last ten years. It’s a question I pose to Chunibhai Vaidya – at 95, possibly the oldest living Gandhian at the famous Sabarmati Ashram.

Question: what would Gandhi have done about 2002?

Vaidya: If he were to come, there would have been no 2002.

Question: How would he have brought reconciliation?

Vaidya: He would have looked beyond religious identity and spoken of universalism.

In quest of an answer to what sadbhavana would really involve, I also invited Dara and Rupa Mody, a Parsi couple, to the Sabarmati Ashram. The Modys lost their teenage son Azhar in the Gulberg Society massacre. His body has not been found and their tragedy was even the subject of a Hindi film, ‘Parzania’. Over the last decade, I have kept going back to them, if only to share their grief.

Ask them about sadbhavana and they speak of how Modi has never ever met them, and how sadbhavana has no meaning for those who lost it all.

In the tears of the Modys, I feel I have found an answer to my quest for reconciliation in post-2002 Gujarat. Wiping the tear from every eye, be they the tears of a Hindu, Muslim, Christian or Parsi. Where a human being reaches out to fellow human beings – surely, that is the true meaning of sadhbhavna. Surely, that is the true message of Gandhi and of God. It’s a message of compassion which a new Gujarat and its leadership need to imbibe.

He says that’s his job at HT. nothing wrong with that but he does have this unhealthy attitude of looking at everything through some distorted Islamic prism. He exhibits attitudes which can only be found in people who belong to cults. For example, not one word from him about the various terror attacks linked to his ummah other than talk trash about the governments which are doing something against the Islamists like the Americans.

Unlike the weak, pathatic UK govenment the law in the UAE is straight forward with no confusion. Dubai has not been voted 7th safest place in the world to live for nothing. There are no fights outside hotels and night clubs because the Police will not put up with it. Children are safe to play outside, the streets are clean, the people are fantastic and the hospitality is second to noce. Can the UK claim any of the above? i dont think so. The big difference between the UK and the UAE is common sense. If you want to have sex on the beach go on holiday to Spain with all the other out of control idiots. Outstanding Dubai keep up the good work and deport anyone who doesnt like

The Gujarat Experiment have established certain laws:
To kill Muslims at a large scale, the BJP must be in power at all levels, starting from the district to Delhi.
The Police must back-up and kill Muslims wherever it can.
Later on, the civil administration must do all that it can to wipe clean evidence against prominent personalities who are culpable for the riots.
The judicial system must move very slowly indeed, if at all some FIRs are registered and the cases are put up to the courts.
Any medical help and insurance or governmental aid should be delayed or even refused.
The vanquished widows, orphans and others must be denied entry into their villages and homes – that would yield precious real estate to the victors.
However, what should be done to those who are still languishing in shelters and camps – thats still being worked out and would be known after the next elections.

@Abu, the BJP never has come to power in the centre on its own strength, so all you have stated is hypothetical , but infinitely more brutality was inflicted upon us Indians by the Slave dynasties , Shah Jahan’s rule onwards and during the reigns of the Brahamni Kings, not to forget the rule of Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan. That was how your ancestor was brutalized into saving his own life to prevent the women of his family taken into slavery.
Please read M.A. Khan’s “Slavery in India”, where the muslim chroniclers have recorded with glee the horrors inflicted and how many were put to sword and how many women and children were taken into slavery and sold at what price.. You muslims enjoy to self-flagellation and are deliberately exposing your “imagined-grief” like beggars. @engrich, it is either your utter ignorance that is screaming out or your your taqqiya tongue!
Below are some translated personal letters sent out by Tipu Sultan , the originals are in the India Office Library wing of the London Museum: no room to hide into the old”lost in translation” excuse!

    1. Letter dated March 22, 1788 to Abdul Kadir:

“Over 12,000 Hindus were ‘honoured’ with Islam. There were many Namboodiris (Brahmins) among them. This achievement should be widely publicised among the Hindus. There the local Hindus should be brought before you and then converted to Islam. No Namboodiri (Brahmin) should be spared. Also they should be confined there till the dress materials sent for them, reach you.”

    2. Letter dated December 14, 1788 to his Army Chief in Calicut:

“I am sending two of my followers with Mir Hussain Ali. With their assistance, you should capture and kill all Hindus. Those below 20 may be kept in prison and 5,000 from the rest should be killed by hanging from the tree-tops. These are my orders.”

    3. Letter dated January 18, 1790, to Syed Abdul Dulai:

“With the grace of Prophet Muhammed and Allah, almost all Hindus in Calicut are converted to Islam. Only a few are still not converted on the borders of Cochin State. I am determined to convert them also very soon. I consider this as Jehad to achieve that object.”

All these letters clearly expose the real character of Tipu Sultan. In spite of this, Kerala Muslim historian, Dr. C.K. Kareem goes to the extent of showing Tipu as a philosopher and a great Sufi, who viewed the whole cosmos as a mosque! Kareem’s “finding” was that Tipu is deliberately painted black just because those who wrote history in Kerala were the descendants of people who had to suffer hardships after his advent. His argument was that the repression represented by Tipu was not for the sake of Islam but to govern a newly-conquered territory. It is worth noting that Dr. Kareem was a scholar and secured his Ph. D from Aligarh Muslim University with a research thesis on ‘Administration of Kerala under Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan’. He has also written a number of articles absolving Mahmud Ghaznavi, Nadir Shah and Aurangzeb of their well-recorded atrocities, forcible conversions and temple-destructions in India. He believes that pious and magnanimous Muslim rulers could never do such things! A taqiyyah technique!!!

So much for the great nationalist Tipu Sultan, and the false history trust down our throats by that failed barrister duo Nehru/Gandhi.

In our age, the scandals and crimes of M0hammad and his early bandits are all over the internet. All of M0hammad’s crimes are readily available for anyone with internet access 24/7. Did you read how Muhammad’s thugs killed that old and respected lady amongst her people; Um Qirfa? Did you read how M0hammad annihilated a whole tribe (Bani Qurayza) in one day? That criminal beheaded between 600 to 800 men, then raped the wife of their leader that very day. Did you know how the decision to kill young lads was made? They checked who grew pubic hair. The one who had some pubic hair showing, even if he was just a child of 11 or 12 years old, got killed that day. Muslim apologetics, like yourself try to find reasons to justify M0hammad’s crimes. How can any decent human being defend M0hammad and the early Muslims when it comes to the Bani Qurayza massacre? You Muslims have no shame, else you would have left that evil cult called Islam.

How can you believe in “Jizya” ? Do you have no shame in asking other people to pay a different kind of tax just because they believe different? Do you have no shame in believing that apostates should be killed? Right now in Iran, a Christian pastor named Youcef Nadarkhani is fighting for his life because your evil court system delivered an execution judgement against him. All he did is become a Christian. He stopped following a gangster like M0hammad and followed a decent human being. You people should be ashamed of yourselves really, but shame does not exist in the lexicon of the Islamic nutihead, who is made brain-dead right from birth adn trained to be a taqqiya.

    Brahmin punishment to shudras
Christening: Good and auspicious names should be given to the Brahmins only. Kshatriyas should be given names connoting braveness and valour. Vaisyas’s name should be based on articles.
Sudras alone should be given names meaning disgrace and degradation. Further the word “Dasan” should be the suffix for all the sudra names. (Chap.2, S.31 and 32).
A Brahmin’s “Poonul” (thread) should be made of cotton. Khatriyas Poonul should be made 3 of janappa threads. Vaisyas Poonul should be made of goat’s hair. (Chap. 2.S.44).
Pigs & sudras: Any eatable article becomes polluted and unfit for consumption when:
    (1) A pig dashes against, (2) hens and **** fly over, (3) when a dog looks at, (4) when a sudra touches. (Chap.3.S.241).
Any one, who offers anything eatable to a sudra after the ceremony will go to hell. Such a fool will be punished there. He will have to live there upside down. (Chap.3.S.249).
If the Brahmins happen to eat anything that has been tasted or touched by a sudra, that Brahmin should have intercourse with his wife that night and the dead will live in the motion of the wife for a month (Chap.3.S.250).
There are seven varieties of sudras:
    (1) He who retreats in a war. (2) A prisoner in a war. (3) One who serves a Brahmin out of devotion. (4) Son of a prostitute. (5) One who is purchased. (6) One who is adopted. (7) One who is a traditional worker. (Chap.8.S.415).
Duties of the sudra: A sudra worships a Brahmin either for salvation or for his livelihood. It will be a good thing for him if he calls all others inferior to Brahmins. (Chap.10.S.122).
As the Kshatriyas have failed to perform rituals and as they neglected to worship the Brahmins, they are becoming sudras (Chap.10.S.43).
In any congregation, the Brahmin alone should eat first. If there is balance of food, that alone should be given to others. New clothes should be worn by Brahmins only and when they become old and torn they should be given to others. A sudra is entitled to receive only these. (Chap.8.S.125)
It is the duty of the king to order the sudra to serve the Brahmins. If the sudra refuses he should be punished and forced. (Chap.10.S.235).
A Brahmin could extract work from the sudra paying or without paying. Brahma has created the sudra only to work for the Brahmins. (Chap.8.S.413).
It is the main duty of the sudra to serve the other communities without jealousy. For his service he may get wages. (Chap.1.S.91).
Exploitation: The wealth of the sudra who does not perform yagna is to be deemed as the property of the Asuras. So his wealth could be plundered.. (Chap.7.S.248).
The wealth of the sudra could be forcibly plundered. No consent is needed. There need not be any hesitation. (Chap.11.S.13).
Even if a sudra is in a position to earn, he should not earn anything more than what is needed to his family. If any sudra does so, he may go against the Brahmins and be tortured. (Chap.10.S.126).
Punishment to sudras: If a sudra talks ill of a Brahmin his tongue should be cut off. (Chap.8.S.270).
If a sudra pronounces the name of a Brahmin or talks of his caste or accuses him, an iron rod ten inches long should be heated red-hot and thrust into the mouth of the sudra. (Chap.8.S.271).
If the sudra dictates the Brahmin to do a particular thing, boiled oil should be poured into the mouth and ears of the sudra. (Chap.8.S.272).
If the sudra hits at Brahmin’s hair beard, legs, neck, penis, his hands must be cut off. (Chap.8.S.283).
If the sudra sits in a seat along with a Brahmin, his hips should be scorched or he should be driven away from the town. (Chap.8.s.281

sumit bose the following is true history of bengal,

    THE MENACE OF HINDU FASCISM
    Dr. W.C. Deb
    Eminent Hindu leader of Bengal
Says the three “eminent” Congress leaders — Lal, Bal, Pal — engineered partition of India. Hindu terrorist Savarkar’s call to “Hinduise politics and militarise Hinduism” inflicted so much violence on Muslims.
Calcutta University was a Hindu fortress. Most Hindus in every village were richer than the richest Muslim. Not a single Muslim had cultivable land in my village. In the 80s, Hindu communalism transformed into Hindu fascism.
It was the Muslim invaders who gave us the name “Hindu”. Savarkar formulated the “two-nation theory” much before Jinnah. The worst anti-Muslim culprit was Bankim Chandra Chatterji, a Bengali Brahmin, the author of Vande Mataram. Muslims never observed untouchability. That is how Dalits opted for Islam in a big way and got liberated.
Muslim rulers Indianised themselves. Dalits fought Brahmins and when defeated embraced Budhism and fought them again after becoming Muslims. Bengali Muslims are mostly Dalit converts. Even Swami Vivekananda said “Islam was a great blessing and liberated the oppressed”. Upper castes partitioned Bengal. Gandhi was a cunning fox” and “a Hindu revivalist”.
“Babri Masjid” was a Hindu conspiracy.
Muslims are too poor to be polygamous but Bengali Brahmins were polygamous.
Though an upper caste Hindu (Kayasth), Deb is very critical of Gandhi, Nehru, and all the Bengali upper castes. On the Babri Masjid, he says it was a Brahmin-instigated conspiracy as old as 1885. He quotes L.K. Advani, the villain who demolished the Masjid: “The Congress wanted the demolition and they had it done by us”.

You don’t care if the 24×7 uninterrupted supply of electricity that you get in this advanced and prosperous state of yours, comes at the expense of drowning out the livelihoods or poisoning the bodies of lesser privileged countrymen.

You don’t care if the peace you see around is got by illegally killing of your own state people by the police. You don’t care if the “astonishing development” of industries have happened by pawning off land as low prices from poor vilagers and given at a pittance to large industrial conglomerates like Adanis.

They want special priviledges when they are in a minority but wouldn’t even treat nonmuslims as even equals or even let them alone (murders, forced conversions, rapes)when they are in a majority like in Kashmir or Pakistan or just take your pick of any Islamic country. When someone is talking about gujrat and they talk only about Muslims being killed and ignore Indians being killed there, they are obviosly indulging in propaganda. If you are singing that same tune, you are a traitor and an Islamist too. Cultism where the center of gravity of the cult is not inside India but in some other place is a danger to this county since that cultism will manifest itself in communal and traitorous ways.

    aaloke and bose,

If the rulers are genuinely interested in the well-being of its own population will it divert such huge funds for border defence?
Aryan rulers hate Bahujans and to punish them they play such war games.
The only thing that guides and directs the Indian upper caste rulers is hate. They hate the over 85% oppressed, starving Indians and that is why to keep them permanently under slavery they are not solving the border disputes.
In other words there is no chance of a border settlement with China.
    WANTED MORE BOMBS
The Hindu rulers have just pushed through a nuclear deal with US which the observers see as a sign of America trying to use India against China. India became a nuclear power to fight Pakistan. Now it wants more bombs and more powerful ones to face the super power China. That means more money will be diverted to buy bombs.
    BRAHMINISTS GAIN IN EVERY WAR
Look at the American hypocrisy. It is against Iran going nuclear but it is giving all-out help to further enhance the capabilities of the already nuclear power (India).
The hate-mongering Jews, after enslaving the White Western Christians, forced the West to attack Islam. Iraq and Afghanistan are pounded. But the West did not win — rather defeated. Their next target is said to be China for which they are using India’s Brahminical rulers.
Having been once defeated, is it ready to face China, now a super power? The Aryan rulers are not bothered.
If there is a war with China or Pakistan those who die in battlefield are our people. The money meant for us will be spent. Both ways the Brahminists stand to gain.
China is fully aware of all these developments and that is why it has encircled the whole of India. All the countries surrounding India have become closest allies of China after Hindu rulers quarrelled with every neighbour.
ITCHING FOR ANOTHER WAR WITH PAKISTAN
Pakistan and “Hindu India” had several wars and Indian rulers are itching for another war. “Hate Muslim” campaign is at its height in India.
Brahminical terrorism led by the Abhinav Bharat is preparing the ground with Israeli funds and weapons.
But China has assured full support. It has become Pakistan’s biggest supplier of defence hardware and fighter planes and guided missiles. And even bomb.
As long as Brahminical rulers continue to hold India’s neck, the Bahujans will be kept at starvation level with war and violence against neighbours always exploding on our face.
But when will the Bahujans wake up? When will they understand the Brahminist game to keep us enslaved? No answer

If you read my post again, you would find out that I was definitely not talking about riots here. I was just trying to point out (and this is applicable to all states and not just Gujarat) that this “India Shining” notion of prosperity is only applicable to a small section of the people, and not to the test of the suicide prone, starving and diseased majority of India who has to suffer to help others prosper. I am all for capitalism and prosperity, but not this way of leeching off others homes and water.
