In search of green
During the past week, I thought of going for a jog. But between the thought and actual action, there was many a slip. The neighbourhood park was shut to joggers; the grass would be damaged during the rainy weather. The other closest park took me 45 minutes to get to in the 7:30 pm traffic, aggravated by the crowds assembled for the Mt Mary fair. By the time I got to the park, they were ready to shut. I jogged a round and a half before I was shooed out. With lots of time to kill sitting in the auto, negotiating all that traffic again on the way back, I remembered the beautiful parks and gardens I’d seen during my trip to China. Besides the general public parks and gardens, there were many of the old gardens that retained the styles from hundreds of years ago, when having well laid out gardens were noblemen’s hobbies and a source of pride.
I dug out some photos for you. Enjoy.

The first four photos are from the Humble Administrator’s garden in Suzhou, built in 1509 AD. The last two are of the Yuyuan garden in Shanghai.
