Dear Anil,

It was Mohan Bhagwat's decision that a certain Nitin Gadkari take charge as President of the BJP. The decision maker is the Sarsangchalak of the RSS, surely Mr. Bhagwat should contest elections if he desires to control the destinies of a large number of BJP legislators and MPs and through them the nation, Anil Ji.

For congenital RSS BJP haters this post was not that bad.

Somethign rather most fo thigns suck in Congress too.. today if you have instituinalized corruption in India then it's solely due to COngress and in particualr certain Indira Gandhi..That institutionalized corruption geared towards perpetuation of power is what keeping India down not some ideological philosphical nationalism preached by RSS.

Yes we all knwo Nehru too used to be a blind git just like Vohras of this world but at least he had open mind realized his mistake but I guess lackeys do not have their own fee will so they can't revisit their stand unless their boss tells them to do so.

Thanks Mr Kalappa for your comments. The RSS has proclaimed itself as a cultural organisation. But we all know that culture is another name for pursuit of power. It does not wish to come into the political arena but has always managed the affairs of the BJP since its inception. Therefore it has an overbearing say in its affairs. L.K.Advani during his prime was the favouritre son of RSS but after his pro Jinnah remarks, he earned the wrath of majority of Pracharaks. Murali Manohar Joshi is today perhaps the closest to the RSS but his fortunes have not been too good largely because the Advani lobby is very strong and keeps on manipulating things to keep him away. One must acknowledge that the RSS also does some exemplary work during calamities and many readers may not know that Pandit Nehru had invited a RSS contingent to participate in the Republic Day parade in 1963 for the role it played during the Chinese agression. But it is also a truth that the RSS breeds some Hindu fundamentalists who because of their bigotry and anachronistic views tend to take the wheel of time back to many centuries. They seek to mix history with mythology and also want to pursue divisive politics. But by and large and like any other organisation, the RSS has both good and not so good people. The RSS has taken it upon itself to initiate corrective measures within the BJP to make it more agenda oriented. Brgds

Dear Rajeev,

The Nehru Gandhi family contests elections and are accountable to the people, they are liable to lose elections too. Mrs. Indira Gandhi lost in Rae Barrelli. Is'nt that democratic? They do participate in the electoral process.. is'nt that democratic? The BJP on the other hand is controlled by the RSS who have not contested elections and are therefore not accountable to the people. That is the reason that I say the RSS has to register with the Election Commission of India.

Dear Ms. Anandan

Amazing is the word that I come up with. To quote you, " dynamic and despite his RSS background not a bigot".

You presume, you are paying a compliment to Nitin Gadkari - whereas it is the ultimate abuse that you could have hurled upon him. The implication - that RSS breeds bigots (and Nitin Gadkari is an honourable exception) is preposterous. You do not agree with the ideology of BJP / RSS - that is fine - but to imply that they breed bigots is indeed shocking and beyond even contempt.

It is like the same argument that some of the commentators writing on these pages routinely make - that most HT journalists are paid Congress lackeys and chamchas ( with honourable exceptions).

I am sure you would dispute this generalisation - that just because you are centrists does not make you and your ilk Congress walaas. Then why do you intend to tar the BJP and RSS sympathisers?

RSS an organization runs a political party BJP.
Nehru-Gandhi FAMILY runs a political party Congress.

Which seems to be more democratic?

Dear Mr. Vohra,

I am not sure that I am able to understand the strategy of the RSS. In the first place they invest time, position, experience and power in people like Venkaiah, Ananth, Jaitley, Sushma and Rajnath and then suddenly, out of the blue find somebody from the back of the beyond to handle the party in this rather precarious situation.

People with no standing adorning the position of President of the BJP are quite a few. You have named Jana and Bangaru, but left out Kushabhau Thakre- one more of the nameless, faceless Presidents. Incidentally virtually all of these are from the RSS.

Just a thought- despite all the protestations, the RSS clearly runs the BJP. Why really should they not register themselves with the Election Commission of India as a Political Party? They can then proceed to build the country they desire. They can invite the public mandate for such issues as a united India-Bangladesh-Pakistan, Ram Temple etc. The public can then judge them on their issues of performance and probity.

A comment on your piece- as always, your analysis is outstanding.

I knwo your congenital hatred for RSS can't be cured so easily but think for a second if sons of mothers could be like Nitin then kudos to that mother i.e RSS.

BJP is in trouble because it has inducted too mahy of fortune seekers who didn;t come through rigours of RSS camp. Any person associated with RSS will have discipline will have India first policy at their heart .

never found any bigot in my 2-3 years of association with RSS. Never even once muslim sikh chrstian name came in the camp. it was all about India India and India
