Controversy it appears has propelled Indira Gandhi’s grandson Varun Feroze Gandhi on the center stage of politics bringing him face to face with his older cousin Rahul Gandhi who by all accounts is considered in political circles as the inheritor of his grandmother’s political legacy.

I have often wondered why and how the Kashmiri Pandits who once controlled the destiny of this country have suddenly gone into political oblivion. The situation is so bad that there is no Kashmiri Pandit in not only the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly for the first time but there is not even one in the two houses of Parliament.
The Kashmiri Pandits are indeed in a minority in the only muslim dominated state of this country and no political party including the Congress which has been led by Kashmiri Pandits over so many years nor the BJP which hopes to exploit their alienation politically have thought of giving representation to this powerful and proud community. Even since the attack on Sri Lankan cricketers took place in Lahore on March 3, a section of media both in India and Pakistan has been trying to draw similarities between what happened in Mumbai on 26/11 and in Lahore. In support of the wrong thesis, it is being said that as in Mumbai, the Lahore attackers also carried backpacks and were armed with ammunition and used the same modus operandi. They were young and in similar age groups and the operation was carried out with military precision. Read more
Delhi has been described as mini India by a large number of our leaders. The results here are also an accurate barometer of how the Congress, India’s grand old party has fared after Parliamentary elections in the country.
