Where are Rani Mukherjee and Preity Zinta? I mean, we haven’t seen them in films for quite a while now and as far as I know, it’s not like they’re madly shooting for hundreds of new movies. Yes, they have been in the news — for their private lives. Rani Mukherjee for her relationship with Aditya Chopra (she’s one of the possibly eight people in the world who can claim to have actually seen Aditya in the flesh and blood, the other nine being his parents, his brother, his ex-wife, Karan Johar, Shah Rukh Khan and maybe his driver). The most boring interviews you are likely to see on TV or read in film magazines are those with movie stars. There are a few honourable exceptions (more about that later, in another blog), but by and large, our film actors and actresses say the same old things, as if they all went to the same school to be coached in the art of giving the world’s most clichéd answers. But after years of reading those ghisa-pita quotes, I’ve finally figured out that mostly, movie stars mean exactly the opposite of what they say. Read more
