I am so delighted that Wake Up Sid has got such glowing reviews. Everyone has – very rightly – exclaimed over the fact that the director is so young and the performances so good. The music has come in for a lot of praise too, as has the very fresh, young feel of the film. Read more

I know it’s a bit late to talk about it (the film released last week) but I just saw Dil Bole Hadippa and if there’s one thought I left the theatre with, it is this: Shahid Kapur will go places. More precisely, places only the Big Two (Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan) have gone till now. In his generation, if there’s one actor who has the potential to become a superstar, it is Shahid Kapur. I haven’t seen Salman Khan’s Wanted yet, but it seems to be a sort of throwback to the big action films of the Seventies with their larger than life tough heroes and solid action.

It made me wonder — what do we feel about these movies today? Or more precisely, what do we feel about that kind of hero today? Read more

Rani Mukherji was on TV last night, insisting that she wasn’t getting married. “I don’t know why journalists keep marrying me off,” she said irritatedly. “I’m NOT getting married!”

The other day, I read an interview with Kareena Kapoor where she too insisted that she wasn’t planning to get married for the next few years. Preity Zinta also says she’s tired of telling people that she is not going to get married anytime soon. Read more

I love spoofs. I thought I’d be rolling in the aisles when I went to see Quick Gun Murugan. Well, I did laugh a little, but not much. It sounds really funny – a sambhar cowboy who says “Mind it!” and “Aye say!”, who fights for vegetarianism, respects “the ladies” and uses his guns like Rajnikanth would (catching a flying bullet between his teeth etc). I’m not courageous – or foolhardy enough – to go and see Ram Gopal Varma’s Agyaat. But friends whose judgment I trust totally have told me that it’s one of the worst movies they have ever seen. That’s what most people felt about Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag as well. And no, I didn’t see that film either (I love Sholay too much and the Aag trailers themselves were so dreadful I shuddered to think what the full film would be like). Read more

This post is really for those who’ve seen Kaminey. If you haven’t, please do go and see it and then read the blog (it’ll make more sense then!). I caught the film over the weekend, and was disappointed to see the half-empty hall (PVR Select CityWalk) because I liked the film so much. Though the reviews have been uniformly positive, I got mixed feedback on the film from friends. Some loved it unconditionally, others found it confusing. Read more

The other night they were showing Yaadon Ki Baraat on one of the Hindimovie channels. I watched parts of it with much enjoyment (unfortunately I couldn’t see the whole film because I had to go out). It was particularly good to listen to the songs – and it was so good to see those songs. Read more

There are some things only movie stars do. No one knows why. (I guess they know, but they’ve never bothered to tell us). Don’t know what I’m getting at? Okay, here goes. Why do movie stars: Read more

Like the rest of the planet, I’ve read and enjoyed all the Harry Potter books (except The Order of the Phoenix, which I found very disappointing; seldom have I loathed a character as much as I loathed Dolores Umbridge).

And again, like the rest of the planet, I too made a dash to the cinema to catch the latest Potter film (Half-Blood Prince). Read more
