Bloggingheads, Sri Lanka and…. Comics!

If you’ve always wanted to pontificate on TV but never really could convince commercial TV channels to put you on their show, the Internet offers some consolation. As a couple of American journalists found when they put together Bloggingheads. If the Internet has turned millions of writers of dubious quality into bloggers who hold forth on anything under the sun, why can’t it convert tele-unfriendly people into TV pundits? Bloggingheads offers a possible answer. It’s a relatively cheap way to stream videos of two people in two different locations engaging in a dialog. You could call it a video-blog of a dialogue (or as the Bloggingheads guys call it, a diavlog). Here’s a recent diavlog of two people (one of them an author and the other a blogger from UN Dispatch ) debating, among other things, why the current crisis in Sri Lanka is not on the UN Security Council agenda and whether international humanitarian NGOs are ignoring Sri Lanka. They also talk about UN peacekeeping efforts in Congo and on Obama’s first UN appearance. Worth a watch.

In case that gets too heavy, you could always go to this video on the TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) website and listen to a funny talk by Scott McCloud, a comics creator (remember Zot!?) who talks about understanding comics.

  1. Your weekly column, download central is absolutely brilliant. I think your music taste is out-of-this-world. However, the download central columns are not archived properly. I think the guys who handle the website should get their act together and ensure a better user experience.
A suggestion - why not post an in-depth review about some of the music blogs you discuss on DC?

  2. Thanks, Lamb of God. I shall ask the techies to organise the archives better. And shall certainly keep in mind your suggestion about the music blogs.

  3. Scott McCloud is an inspiration for webcomic authors. And I guess he DID invent the term Infinite Canvas. A great concept, and something you notice when yuu are trying to adapt your webcomic to a print medium. “What? Only 5×7 inches?”
